Spiritual Meditation Can Benefit Any Spirituality, Even Atheism

You don’t actually have to bring any Saint, holy figure or deity into your meditation sessions to have spiritual meditations. If your meditation sessions benefit you by helping you be the best person you know you can be (in body and emotions) than that is spiritual meditation. Religious meditation is when you specifically concentrate on holy figures such as a guru or a god.

Benefits

It can be difficult for a modern citizen of Western civilization to wrap their heads around the concepts of spiritual meditation. But not everybody has to meditate, let alone do spiritual meditation. One of the great benefits of meditation is appreciating the sameness and differences in all things, including people.

Spiritual meditation can have positive physical benefits to your body. It can help you de-stress, help you relax, digest your food more efficiently, find a point inside yourself you can go to when under stress and quite possibly put hair on your chest. People find different benefits from spiritual mediation. But is good to give your body and thoughts a brief rest from all of the troubles of the day. When you are under stress all of the time, you have less energy, are more prone to getting sick and have trouble making decisions.

Spiritual meditation can also help you get out of your own head. By calming down and thinking about something else that relaxes you, you might be able to suddenly understand someone else’s point of view or see that your argument with someone really is silly. Some people use meditation to make decisions in ethical choices. Human ethics are remarkably similar no matter what religion you follow – even atheism.

So, What Is It?

Only you can answer what spiritual meditation is for you. It is a part of growing up, both mentally and spiritually. If, after your meditation sessions, you feel calmer, more sure about your place in the world and less prone to any drastic action, then that is spiritual meditation. You take some time out to get a proper perspective on life, the universe and everything.

By being healthy and calm, able to understand someone’s point of view and not quick to be swayed by strong emotions, you can feel that you have found your place in the world, or at least get a more secure foothold. By being healthy and in harmony as much as you can, you will do less damage that way and more ethical good.
